The Kano State Shura Committee has suspended prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Lawal Shuaib Abubakar, popularly known as Sheikh Triumph, from preaching and teaching pending the outcome of an investigation into allegations of blasphemy.
The committee’s secretary, Shehu Wada Sagagi, disclosed the decision after a review meeting, stating that both audio and video clips of the cleric’s sermons were carefully examined.
“Today we met again to review the allegations against Sheikh Triumph. We listened to and watched his recorded sermons. We separated the accusations that had no evidence from those supported by evidence. Every verified point has been documented,” Sagagi told journalists.
He explained that Sheikh Triumph would be issued a formal letter to appear before the committee and defend himself. Until then, the suspension remains in place. After his defense, the committee will forward its recommendations to the Kano State government for appropriate action.
Reports indicate that the allegations against the cleric include making offensive remarks about Prophet Muhammad (SAW), questioning aspects of his birth story, and suggesting that the Prophet’s parents were in hellfire.
Sagagi assured that Sheikh Triumph would be granted sufficient time to appear before the panel and present his defense before a final decision is taken.
