Panic broke out in Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, on Monday after unidentified gunmen shot and killed a repentant bandit, Kyoga Joka, at the town’s main market.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants stormed the busy market and opened fire on Joka, who was reportedly serving with the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) in Ukum.
The attack caused chaos as traders and shoppers fled in different directions to escape the gunfire.
Joka was killed instantly.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of press time.
