Ikot Esu, Akwa Ibom — The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has commended Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, for prioritizing development over party loyalty by leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Wike made the remarks during the commissioning of the 15.13km Ikot Esu-Otomo-Azumini road in Ika Local Government Area on Wednesday, emphasizing that collaboration and unity are key drivers of progress.
“Unity brings about development. Working together brings about development. Putting yourself together to be strong brings about development,” Wike said.
The FCT Minister also praised Governor Eno for partnering with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, noting that the collaboration is set to deliver more projects to the state.
“One good thing you must commend the governor for is his willingness, for the interest of Akwa Ibom, to work with the Senate President. I assure you, this teamwork will bring more presence and more development to Akwa Ibom,” Wike added.
Highlighting Governor Eno’s leadership, Wike cited the newly commissioned Ikot Esu-Azumini road as evidence of his commitment to tangible development. He further acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s role in making funds available to states for critical projects.
Earlier, Governor Eno stressed the importance of unity in driving development. “When we unite for progress, it defies politics,” he said, expressing gratitude to Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for collaborating on the inter-state road project.
Governor Eno also reaffirmed Akwa Ibom’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s second term, pointing to the stabilization of the national economy and the administration’s financial prudence.
“We are united to support President Tinubu for his second term because of his efforts in stabilizing the economy. We have funds for projects like this without leaving debts for future administrations,” he said.
On ongoing infrastructure projects, Governor Eno warned the Ministry of Works to expedite the completion of the Mbiabong-Atan-Ikon-Inya road, cautioning that contracts not completed within three months would be terminated.
He stressed the importance of delivering on government mandates and ensuring contractors do not delay development unnecessarily.
