US Mission to Nigerians: Disclose Your Social Media History or Risk Visa Denial

US declares visa restrictions for anyone who undermines Nigerian elections

ABUJA — The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a fresh directive to visa applicants, mandating full disclosure of their social media activity over the past five years when filling out the DS-160 form.

In a notice shared via its official X handle on Monday, August 18, 2025, the Mission stressed that applicants must provide all usernames or handles used across any social media platforms within that period.

“Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last five years on the DS-160 visa application form,” the Mission stated.

It further cautioned that omission or misrepresentation of such information could jeopardize future travel plans, lead to visa denial, or render applicants permanently ineligible for US visas.

“Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit. Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas,” the statement read in part.

The Mission maintained that incomplete or misleading entries will not be tolerated, urging applicants to ensure absolute transparency when completing the visa process.
