Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has debunked a viral claim suggesting she is HIV positive, describing the report as false, misleading, and damaging to her reputation.
The allegation stemmed from a video shared by a content creator, Olaoluwa Segun, who named the actress among five Nigerian actors purportedly living with HIV. The video quickly went viral, drawing widespread attention across social media platforms.
In a video posted on her Instagram page, Amusa clarified that the claim was based on a 2019 post she had made to raise awareness about HIV. She explained that the original post clearly stated her HIV status as negative and was aimed at encouraging the public to know their status and seek medical care if necessary.
“I want to address a video that has been trending across all social media platforms in the last 24 hours,” Amusa said. “It was posted by someone I don’t know, and people started tagging me in it. The video relates to a post I made in 2019, where I stated my HIV status was negative—an awareness post meant to educate people on the importance of getting tested.”
The actress expressed disappointment that the post was taken out of context and weaponized without any proper investigation. She further warned that legal action would be taken against the content creator, vowing to make an example of him.
“It’s shocking that someone would use an educational post to spread falsehoods,” she added. “I will not let this slide. I will make you a scapegoat.”
Amusa’s firm response comes amid growing concern over the spread of misinformation and defamation on social media platforms.
