Former Arsenal midfielder and football pundit Paul Merson has openly criticised the club’s decision to sign Chelsea winger Noni Madueke, expressing shock over the high-profile transfer.
Madueke is set to join Arsenal from city rivals Chelsea in the ongoing summer transfer window after both clubs reportedly reached an agreement.
Reacting to the deal on Sky Sports, Merson said he was stunned by the move, questioning Madueke’s consistency and goal-scoring ability.
“I’m flabbergasted by Arsenal’s signing of Noni Madueke. I am shocked,” Merson said.
“I just don’t see it. It’s a lot of money for a player who isn’t a prolific goalscorer. He’s the sort of player that has a good game here and a good game there, but that’ll be it. The consistency of performance isn’t there.”
Merson’s remarks have added to the mixed reactions from fans and pundits, with many waiting to see how Madueke adapts to life at the Emirates.
