The 2027 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has accused those in power of “stealing” Nigeria’s elections and economy.
Atiku made the remarks in a video shared on his X handle on Wednesday, as he outlined his position on the country’s political and economic challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We are competing with thieves. They stole the election. Now they have stolen the economy. They have stolen everything,” he said.
The former Vice President also reiterated his pledge to restore fuel subsidy if elected president, arguing that its removal has worsened economic hardship and pushed more Nigerians into poverty.
According to Atiku, the primary responsibility of government is to protect the welfare of citizens, adding that Nigeria has sufficient resources to provide relief for its people.
He also promised to strengthen both economic and physical security, while supporting local production and creating an environment where businesses can expand.
Atiku further linked rising fuel prices to increased transportation and food costs, saying the situation had placed additional pressure on Nigerian households.
He pledged that his administration would pursue policies aimed at making wages more valuable, supporting businesses and improving the purchasing power of Nigerians if elected in 2027.
