FIFA President Gianni Infantino has congratulated Spain on their 2026 FIFA World Cup victory, describing the achievement as a historic milestone that will be remembered for generations.
Infantino made the remarks in a post on his official Instagram account on Tuesday, shortly after Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final.
Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal to secure Spain’s second FIFA World Cup title, 16 years after their maiden triumph in South Africa in 2010.
Reacting to the victory, Infantino praised the Spanish team for writing a new chapter in football history.
“Sixteen years after lifting the trophy in South Africa, Spain are FIFA World Cup champions once again. Football has a new golden chapter to celebrate, and this achievement will be remembered for generations,” he wrote.
He urged the players to celebrate the historic feat with their loved ones and supporters.
“Celebrate with your families, your supporters and your nation. You have earned your place in football history,” Infantino added.
