Senator representing Abia North, Orji Kalu, had a heated exchange with Channels Television anchor Seun Okinbaloye during a live interview on Wednesday, accusing the journalist of attempting to harass him while questioning him on Nigeria’s economic policies.
The tense moment unfolded as the discussion focused on the economic decisions of the administration of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, particularly the printing of money, a policy widely linked to the country’s rising inflation.
While defending the economic reforms of the current administration, Kalu argued that the previous government also implemented policies that contributed to Nigeria’s economic challenges.
“Mind you, the previous government front-loaded some of the oil. Some crude oil was sold,” Kalu said during the interview.
He further stated, “I don’t even know who among them will do anything better than what is being done. They printed money and we questioned them.”
As Okinbaloye continued to probe the senator on the issue, Kalu became visibly frustrated and accused the interviewer of being confrontational.
“You can’t call people here to harass them. You can’t harass me. This is no longer an interview,” the senator said.
The exchange occurred during a broader discussion on the economic challenges inherited by the current administration, including the effects of the previous government’s fiscal and monetary policies.
