The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has urged church leaders across the country to remain unwavering in speaking truth to those in authority and advocating for justice, good governance, and the welfare of Nigerians.
Obi made the call on Thursday while attending the opening ceremony of the 50th/15th Biennial Conference of the Methodist Church of Nigeria in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
In a post shared on his verified X account after the event, the former Anambra State governor described the Church as one of Nigeria’s strongest pillars of hope, moral leadership, and national conscience.
He encouraged church leaders and delegates to continue standing with ordinary Nigerians, particularly during challenging times, while remaining committed to promoting accountability and national development.
Obi also appealed to the Church to pray for political leaders, asking God to guide them toward selfless leadership and the responsible use of public resources.
“Yesterday, I joined my dear brother, Governor Seyi Makinde, and faithful members of the Methodist Church from across the country and beyond,” Obi wrote.
“I thank God for His faithfulness to the Methodist Church over the years and reflect on the immense potential Nigeria possesses as a nation.
“I encourage the Church and its delegates to remain steadfast in speaking truth to power.
“I urge them always to pray that God Almighty would touch the hearts of politicians and leaders, so that they will always think and use public resources for the public good.”
