US Senator Ted Cruz Accuses Nigerian Government of Ignoring Anti-Christian Violence

United States Senator Ted Cruz has alleged that Nigerian government officials are complicit in ongoing violence against Christians, claiming authorities have failed to take decisive action despite rising insecurity across the country.

Speaking on the floor of the United States Senate on Tuesday, Cruz expressed concern over what he described as the persistent killing of Christians in Nigeria, stating that the situation continues to worsen despite repeated assurances from the Nigerian government to address security challenges.

The lawmaker argued that certain states in Nigeria still operate under Sharia law, while alleging that federal authorities have “looked the other way” as extremist groups carry out attacks on civilians.

According to Cruz, “More Christians are killed for their faith in Nigeria than anywhere else in the world.” He further claimed that since 2009, over 50,000 Christians have been killed, while more than 20,000 churches, schools, and religious institutions have been destroyed.

He also highlighted cases of abduction, noting that “scores of Christians and several others” have been kidnapped amid the violence.

Cruz concluded by accusing Nigerian officials of failing to intervene effectively, suggesting that the lack of accountability has contributed to the continued rise in extremist attacks.

The Nigerian government has yet to respond publicly to the senator’s remarks.
