US Firm Challenges Tinubu to Back Release of FBI Records Over Alleged Heroin Trafficking Links

A United States-based policy advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has challenged President Bola Tinubu to support the release of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) records relating to allegations of heroin trafficking reportedly linked to him.

The firm made the call in a statement published on its verified X handle on Thursday, questioning Tinubu’s commitment to fighting drug trafficking.

It described the President’s recent anti-drug advocacy as a “desperate stunt” unless he publicly supports the disclosure of the records.

According to the firm, its principal, Dr Von Batten, met with Republican and Democratic congressional staffers on Wednesday to discuss several issues, including the allegations involving the Nigerian president.

The firm called on Tinubu to publicly request the release of all FBI records concerning the alleged links and withdraw his petition before a US court opposing their disclosure.

“If President Tinubu is committed to fighting drug trafficking, we challenge him to publicly call for the FBI to release all records concerning alleged heroin trafficking reportedly connected to him.

“We also challenge him to withdraw his petition before the US court opposing their disclosure,” the statement said.

The allegations concerning Tinubu have previously featured in legal proceedings in the United States. However, the lobbying firm’s latest statement does not establish that the allegations are proven, and its claims should be distinguished from verified findings of a court.

The Nigerian government had not issued a response to the firm’s latest statement at the time of writing.
