“Tinubu Still Doesn’t Fully Trust Me Because I’m Igbo” — Cubana Chief Priest Opens Up on Political Setback

Nigerian entrepreneur and socialite, Pascal Chibuike Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu still views him with suspicion because of his previous support for Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election.

Speaking during a chat with streamer Peller on Tuesday evening, the nightlife promoter admitted that his past political alignment may have affected the level of trust the President has in him.

“Let me tell you, as I am now, Tinubu doesn’t really trust me as an Igbo man. He looks at me with one eye. He is still like, ‘this one that has worked for Peter Obi before,’” he said.

Cubana Chief Priest explained that although he initially worked for Peter Obi in the 2023 election, he later withdrew his support after concluding that Obi stood no realistic chance of defeating Tinubu at the polls.

The celebrity barman eventually threw his weight behind Tinubu and became the Imo State Coordinator of the City Boys Movement, a political support group aligned with the President.

His comments come shortly after his failed attempt to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives ticket for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency in Imo State.

Although he had publicly obtained the APC nomination form, Cubana Chief Priest later claimed he never officially contested for the ticket after losing out in the party’s internal process.

Following the outcome, reactions flooded social media, with many Nigerians mocking the socialite and suggesting he may have underestimated the harsh realities of Nigerian politics.

In a show of support, Seyi Tinubu sent him a message of encouragement via Instagram, urging him not to be discouraged by the setback and reminding him that political defeats can pave the way for future success.

Despite his loss, Cubana Chief Priest maintained that Peter Obi would still struggle to defeat Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
