Bruno Fernandes Hails De Bruyne as Key Obstacle in Man United’s Trophy Drought

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has credited Kevin De Bruyne as a defining figure in Manchester City’s dominance — and a major reason behind United’s recent struggles to secure silverware.

Speaking after United’s goalless draw against City in the Premier League on Sunday, Fernandes acknowledged the Belgian playmaker’s immense influence on English football, describing him as a transformative presence in the league.

“Kevin De Bruyne made the Premier League better,” Fernandes told Sky Sports. “If Man City are where they are and Manchester United haven’t won as many trophies in this period, it’s also because of Kevin De Bruyne. He deserves all the credit — he’s been fantastic.”

Fernandes’ remarks follow De Bruyne’s announcement that he will be leaving Manchester City at the end of the season. The 33-year-old is set to depart on a free transfer after a decade of stellar performances that helped City to multiple titles under Pep Guardiola.

Manchester United, in contrast, have endured a challenging period, with their last Premier League title dating back to 2013 under Sir Alex Ferguson.
