Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has left the national team camp, with the Portugal Football Federation confirming his departure without disclosing the reason.
In an official statement, the federation said preparations for the team’s upcoming fixtures would continue with the remaining 24 players.
“Cristiano Ronaldo has left the national team camp. Our preparations for the next games continue with our 24 players with maximum focus on the results,” the statement read.
Ronaldo’s departure comes after he was left on the bench throughout Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Norway in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday.
The Al Nassr forward was visibly frustrated at the final whistle and was seen leaving the pitch without acknowledging Portugal supporters.
Ronaldo has since arrived in Madrid and reportedly indicated that he would reveal the “truth” behind his decision to leave the national team camp.
The circumstances surrounding his departure remain unclear, with the Portuguese federation yet to provide further details.
