The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has ruled out the possibility of resolving his political feud with Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, accusing the governor and his camp of disregarding directives issued by President Bola Tinubu during a peace meeting.
Wike made these remarks on Sunday during a media briefing in Abuja, where he criticized Fubara’s faction for failing to report back to President Tinubu on their inability to fully implement the president’s directives aimed at resolving the crisis.
“The President, in his wisdom, called all parties and gave clear instructions: withdraw the impeachment notice, implement specific actions, and follow through. While they withdrew the impeachment notice, they failed to act on other directives and never returned to explain why,” Wike stated.
The feud between Wike and Fubara has deepened since Fubara assumed office, primarily fueled by a struggle for control of Rivers State’s political and structural resources. The conflict has also spilled into the state legislature, where 27 lawmakers have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), resulting in factional speakers and a parallel assembly.
Wike expressed shock at the lack of accountability from Fubara’s camp. “For a president to mediate and for one party to go back and act unilaterally is unprecedented. Who does that?” he queried.
The ongoing rift highlights a growing division within the Rivers State political landscape, with no resolution in sight.
