The factional leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, led by Mr. Nname Ewor, has strongly opposed the impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Ewor emphasized that the Supreme Court’s February 28 ruling did not include any directive for impeachment. He urged the Martins Amaewule-led Assembly to prioritize peace and adhere strictly to the court’s verdict.
He also called on Governor Fubara to expedite the implementation of the ruling and ensure administrative stability at the grassroots level by conducting local government elections.
“We urge you (Fubara) to fully implement the Supreme Court judgment and conduct the local government election, following the dissolution of the immediate past chairmen and councillors in compliance with the ruling,” Ewor stated.
He further encouraged the governor to remain committed to re-presenting the 2025 budget, despite initial resistance from lawmakers, expressing optimism about the rescheduled March 19 presentation.
Ewor dismissed the impeachment notice as an unnecessary distraction, urging all parties to embrace dialogue and cooperation for the stability of the state. He maintained that adherence to the Supreme Court ruling would help resolve the ongoing political tensions in Rivers.
