The member representing Ugwunagbo State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chijioke Uruakpa, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party (LP).

Uruakpa, whose constituency lies within a traditional PDP stronghold, made the announcement on Sunday during a visit to Governor Alex Otti. The lawmaker was accompanied by over eight traditional rulers and a crowd of enthusiastic supporters from his constituency.

The defection was confirmed in a statement issued by Governor Otti’s Chief Press Secretary on Sunday evening.

A reliable source within the camp of another PDP lawmaker in Abia State hinted that his principal may also be considering a move to the Labour Party before mid-June, signaling further potential realignments in the state’s political landscape.
