Senator Adams Oshiomhole has moved to clarify the ongoing friction between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and governors of the All Progressives Congress, insisting that Wike’s loyalty lies with President Bola Tinubu personally rather than with the APC as a party.
Speaking during a television interview on Tuesday, the lawmaker representing Edo North said the tension sparked by Wike’s recent remarks—in which he branded some APC governors “politically lazy”—should not be mistaken for opposition to the President’s re-election bid.
According to the former Edo State governor, both camps are ultimately pursuing the same objective. “Wike is supporting President Tinubu and not the APC,” he said, adding that the minister and the governors “are both unanimous” in backing Tinubu’s second-term ambitions.
Oshiomhole noted that Wike has never hidden his political status, having repeatedly stated that he is not a card-carrying member of the APC even as he continues to champion the President’s cause. “He has said so himself repeatedly that he is not an APC person; he is not a member of the APC, but he supports the President,” Oshiomhole said.
The senator expressed confidence that the apparent rift was not a threat to Tinubu’s political fortunes, stating he was “comfortable” that both sides remained aligned toward re-election, and that no one—Wike included—had voiced any opposition to the President’s continuation in office.
