Hundreds of youths and students on Thursday staged a solidarity trek through Abeokuta, Ogun State, declaring their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The rally, organised by the Yayi Progressives Movement, began at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, where participants gathered before marching through major streets of the state capital.

The protesters carried banners and placards while chanting solidarity songs in support of the three All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders.

Addressing the participants at the Ake Palace, Convener of the movement, Engr. Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, said the exercise was organised to demonstrate support for President Tinubu’s anticipated bid for a second term, Governor Abiodun’s reported ambition to contest for the Senate, and Senator Adeola’s governorship aspiration.

Akintunde said the mobilisation was motivated by what the group described as the economic reforms of the Tinubu administration, alongside the developmental and empowerment initiatives of Governor Abiodun and Senator Adeola.

He added that the rally was also aimed at encouraging young Nigerians to take an active role in the democratic process while reaffirming their commitment to the APC.

The convener particularly commended Senator Adeola for what he described as his contributions to youth empowerment, infrastructure development and constituency projects across Ogun State.

“We have every reason to support our principals because we are confident that, come 2027, they will record a landslide victory.

“Over the past three years, President Tinubu’s reforms and Senator Yayi’s track record in empowerment, infrastructure development and constituency projects have continued to inspire many young people to support their leadership,” Akintunde said.

Also speaking, the Co-Convener of the movement and former member of the House of Representatives, Kehinde Odeneye, described the trek as peaceful and orderly.

Odeneye said the exercise demonstrated the commitment of the movement’s youth and student wings to promoting unity, political participation and stronger engagement within the APC.

“The Youth and Students Wings of the movement have conducted this peaceful and orderly exercise under our supervision. This initiative promotes unity, encourages active political participation and strengthens youth engagement within the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State.

“We also want the public to know that we remain firmly aligned with our leaders and fully support the position expressed by our Convener. They have consistently demonstrated exemplary leadership, and we are pleased to organise this exercise in support of their vision as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum,” he said.
