The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) has unveiled plans to provide a free, high-level training programme on Strategic Foresighting to selected nominees of Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in a move aimed at strengthening governance and institutional capacity.

Director-General of NIPSS, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, announced the initiative during the opening of the third edition of the Strategic Leadership and Management Course (SLMC) at the Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona School of Governance Studies in Ago-Iwoye.

Omotayo disclosed that 20 participants will be nominated by the Ogun State Government for the specialised training scheduled for June/July 2026. He described the initiative as a clear demonstration of the state’s commitment to human capital development and the advancement of effective governance.

He commended the state government for its sustained investment in leadership development, noting that the quality of governance is directly linked to the competence and strategic capacity of those in leadership positions.

According to him, the SLMC is structured to deepen strategic thinking, enhance institutional effectiveness, and equip senior public officials with the skills needed to navigate the complexities of modern governance.

Declaring the course open, the Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, described the programme as a key component of the state’s ongoing public service reform agenda. He revealed that 42 participants, including Permanent Secretaries and other top-ranking officials, are taking part in the current edition.

Onasanya noted that the initiative has continued to expand in scope and impact, attracting participation from other states, including Lagos, in previous editions. He urged participants to fully engage with the training and apply the knowledge gained to improve service delivery across ministries, departments, and agencies.

In his welcome address, the Director of the School of Governance Studies, Prof. Sola Adeyanju, said the third edition builds on the successes of earlier programmes, offering a more refined and experience-driven platform for leadership development and policy formulation.

He praised the Ogun State Government for its consistent support, emphasizing that the programme is designed to foster a more responsive, efficient, and results-oriented public service.

The initiative underscores Ogun State’s broader drive toward administrative excellence and its commitment to strengthening governance through continuous leadership development.
