NIS Warns Nigerians Against Illegal Migration, Fake Travel Schemes

0

The Nigeria Immigration Service has warned Nigerians against attempting to leave the country without valid travel documents, describing such actions as illegal and dangerous.

In a public advisory issued on Monday via its official X account, the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI AS Akinlabi, stressed that all international travel must be undertaken with valid passports, visas where necessary, and other officially approved immigration documents.

The agency cautioned that bypassing lawful immigration procedures or using unauthorised border routes amounts to a violation of Nigerian laws and could expose travellers to severe consequences.

The Service also expressed concern over the increasing activities of fraudulent migration syndicates that deceive unsuspecting Nigerians, especially youths, with fake promises of jobs, education, and better living opportunities abroad.

According to the NIS, many of these irregular migration schemes often lead victims into forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation.

“No legitimate travel process bypasses established immigration procedures or official border posts,” the agency warned.

The NIS advised Nigerians to carefully verify travel and recruitment offers through official channels and avoid engaging with unregistered agents or individuals promoting illegal migration.

It further urged members of the public to report suspicious migration-related activities to the nearest Immigration Service office or relevant security agencies.

Reaffirming its commitment to national security, the Service stated that it remains resolute in protecting Nigeria’s borders and safeguarding citizens from exploitation by illegal migration networks.
