Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies (DisCos) collected ₦205.53 billion out of the ₦250.79 billion billed to customers in July, according to the latest data from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The figures, contained in NERC’s Commercial Performance Factsheet released via its official X handle in Abuja, show the DisCos received a total of ₦333.94 billion worth of energy during the month. Of that volume, only ₦250.79 billion was billed to customers, translating to a collection efficiency of 81.97 per cent against what was billed — and about 61.5 per cent of the total energy value received.
Eko DisCo Tops Performance Chart
Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) emerged as the best-performing operator, posting a revenue collection efficiency of 94.67 per cent. Port Harcourt DisCo followed with 84.95 per cent, while Benin Electricity Distribution Company rounded out the top three with 79.15 per cent.
Kaduna, Jos DisCos Lag Behind
At the other end of the spectrum, Kaduna DisCo recorded the weakest recovery efficiency in the country, collecting just 39.71 per cent of what it billed customers. Jos DisCo was not far ahead, with 46.27 per cent, while Kano DisCo posted a modest 55.41 per cent.
The wide disparity between top and bottom performers continues to highlight long-standing challenges in Nigeria’s power sector, including metering gaps, revenue leakages, and uneven billing infrastructure across the 11 DisCos operating nationwide.
