Black smoke once again rose from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel on Thursday, indicating that cardinals meeting in conclave have not yet reached a decision on a new pope.

The symbolic signal, seen by thousands gathered in St. Peter’s Square, came on the morning of the second day of secret deliberations by the 133 cardinal electors.

As anticipation builds worldwide, faithful observers continue to await the moment white smoke announces the election of a new spiritual leader for the Roman Catholic Church.
