The incident occurred around 6 a.m. at Ilubirin, inward Sura, when a J5 Ford bus, carrying perishable goods, collided with a Mercedes truck.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the bus, which had suffered a brake failure while speeding, crashed into the truck. Four individuals were extracted from the wreckage, three of whom survived, though one person succumbed to their injuries at the site. The survivors were rushed to the General Hospital on Lagos Island for medical treatment.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended his condolences to the deceased’s family and stressed the importance of adhering to road safety protocols, particularly during the festive season. He urged drivers of heavy-duty vehicles to ensure their vehicles, especially braking systems, are in optimal condition to prevent such tragedies.
