A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Niyi Adams, has warned that the party’s prospects for the 2027 general elections could be severely hampered if it fails to enforce discipline among its members.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, Adams, who is also a former State Youth Leader and the Director of Campaign and Strategy for the PDP in the 2023 governorship election, emphasized the need for the party to address indiscipline and anti-party activities that have plagued its ranks since it lost power in 2015.
Adams stated that the party’s chances of making a successful comeback in 2027 would remain slim if it continued to tolerate internal disarray. He underscored that while reconciliation efforts are important, they must be accompanied by clear boundaries and a commitment to party discipline.
“We cannot continue with the same approach and expect different results. If we don’t enforce discipline, reconciliation will be futile,” Adams said. “We must stand firm against indiscipline and anti-party activities, or else the consequences will be evident in 2027.”
Adams called on PDP leadership to focus on moving beyond the setbacks of the 2023 elections and work towards strengthening the party for future challenges. He also hinted at the involvement of external forces in the party’s current turmoil, stressing the need for accountability and consequences for actions within the party.
In conclusion, Adams emphasized that the Nigerian populace is eagerly awaiting the PDP to offer a viable alternative to the current government, but this can only be achieved through unity, discipline, and strategic reforms within the party.
