The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, met with the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, in Abuja on Wednesday.
This is according to a photo that was shared on the official Twitter handle of the Governor without any other detail about the meeting.
“Earlier today with @PoliceNG IG Mohammed Adamu after a meeting in Abuja,” Ortom captioned the photo.
The meeting took place days after gunmen suspected to be bandits carried out an assassination attempt on Ortom who was returning from his farm in the outskirt of Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
Shortly after the incident, the IGP ordered the Benue State Police Command to carry out full-scale investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack on the Governor.
According to a statement issued by Force spokesman, Frank Mba, Mohammed also “ordered the deployment of a team of specialized investigators from the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Abuja, to Benue State to provide additional investigative support to the Benue State Police Command.”
Before the meeting with the IGP, Ortom had yesterday met with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.
Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, the Governor used the opportunity to address those who hold doubts about the attack.
According to him, he has no reason to raise a false alarm that he was attacked if such did not happen.
