According to Igbo Leaders of Thought (ILT), an organization composed primarily of politicians and intellectuals, its late leader, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, put in a great deal of effort to further Nigeria’s growth.

It was also stated that the well-known legal hero, who passed away on Tuesday, envisioned Nigeria as a powerful and democratic nation.

A close ally of Nwabueze’s and the Secretary of the ILT, Prof. Elochukwu Amucheazi, recalled that in the early 1960s when the country faced the threat of “destruction” and corruption, the eminent lawyer jumped onto the stage and wrote and published nearly daily documents of warning that were over 60 pages long. “He would take the publications to me in the morning after driving to the University of Ibadan.”

He said that Nwabueze, the ILT’s founder and commander until his passing, was still a true Nigerian and Igbo nationalist.

Amucheazi took use of the chance to dispel the myth that Nwabueze was in charge of drafting the country’s constitution, which resulted in the unbalanced federal structure that exists today in some parts of the nation.

He cited Nwabueze’s warning that no one person should write a country’s constitution, noting that numerous other eminent jurists from both Northern and Southern Nigeria contributed to the Nigerian Constitution’s formulation.

Amucheazi claimed to have collaborated with Nwabueze during his tenure as the organization’s first secretary, which he held for over 20 years, and in Igbo Leaders of Thought.

“It’s right to style him President/Secretary of Ohanaeze. He founded Igbo Leaders of Thought, eminent Igbo scholars, thinkers, and statesmen. He took over from FRA Williams in The Patriots, which was an organization of eminent leaders of this country. A lot has been accomplished by these organisations, even though the democratic order is yet to be achieved. We bid goodbye to Prof Nwabueze and promise to continue the struggle,” Amucheazi mourned.

He said that the late attorney for constitutional rights produced about fifty important publications based on research. It was emphasized that the three volumes of his biography and the ten volumes of Africa made it abundantly evident that Nwabueze was a leading thinker.
