NNPP Vows to Unseat Adeleke in 2026 Osun Gov Race

The Osun State chapter of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has declared its preparedness for the 2026 gubernatorial election, expressing strong optimism about unseating the incumbent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government led by Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The party’s declaration follows the recent announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the Osun governorship election will take place on August 8, 2026.

Speaking in Osogbo on Saturday, the NNPP State Chairman, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, said the party had anticipated the announcement and is ready to hit the ground running. He described the forthcoming election as one that will reshape the state’s political landscape.

“Now that the coast is becoming clearer, our party will commence a statewide tour of all wards to sensitise voters on the importance of voting their conscience — not emotion,” Odeyemi stated.

He also accused the Adeleke-led administration of relying heavily on propaganda, while urging Osun citizens to demand accountable and people-driven governance.

“Our doors are open to everyone with good intentions for Osun. We welcome such individuals with open arms and will treat them as equals within our party structure,” Odeyemi added.

The NNPP, according to him, is open to collaboration with any political party committed to the interests of the people, in a bid to “rescue the state from a government driven by nepotism.”

Hinting at a dramatic contest ahead, he said, “As we’ve earlier affirmed, the Osun 2026 gubernatorial election will be a funny and surprising game — one like we’ve never experienced in the state before.”

While calling on political stakeholders to play by the rules, Dr. Odeyemi cautioned against actions that could threaten peace and stability, warning that no ambition is worth setting the state on fire.

INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu had announced the Osun and Ekiti governorship election dates on Friday during the swearing-in of six newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), recently confirmed by the National Assembly.

The political atmosphere in Osun is expected to intensify in the coming months as parties prepare for what promises to be a fiercely contested election.
