NLC: Peter Obi Doesn’t Need Coalition to Win 2027 Presidency

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared that the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, does not need a coalition with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or support from political figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or ex-Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to secure a win in the 2027 presidential election.

In an exclusive interview, Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, Deputy President of the NLC Political Commission, expressed strong confidence in Obi’s prospects, asserting that the former governor of Anambra remains a formidable and widely accepted candidate capable of defeating incumbent President Bola Tinubu in a fair election.

“Peter Obi is a sellable candidate,” Ndubuaku stated, rejecting any speculations about Obi rejoining the PDP. He described the opposition party as “crisis-ridden and near-empty,” adding that Obi’s performance in the 2023 elections—where he won in areas traditionally dominated by Tinubu—demonstrated his widespread appeal across Nigeria.

“Obi doesn’t need any coalition to win the 2027 election. He has proven himself to be a credible and widely accepted candidate. If INEC conducts a free and fair election, Obi will win,” Ndubuaku said, highlighting the candidate’s broad local and international network.

The comments come as the Obidients Movement, which remains steadfast in its support for Obi, declared its commitment to backing him in the 2027 race, regardless of the platform he chooses. Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the movement’s National Coordinator, reaffirmed Obi’s unique ability to rescue Nigeria from its current economic and governance challenges.

Ndubuaku also dismissed concerns surrounding zoning and power rotation, asserting that Obi’s track record and reputation for effective leadership make him the right choice for the country’s future. “Obi isn’t desperate for power. He’s focused on revitalizing Nigeria,” he added.

As the 2027 election approaches, Obi’s potential candidacy continues to fuel discussions on Nigeria’s political future, with many seeing him as a beacon of hope amidst the country’s ongoing challenges.
