Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has approved the release of N422.1 million to cover the 2024/2025 academic session registration fees for 6,127 indigent students of Kebbi origin studying in two major federal universities.
The state Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Isah Abubakar-Tunga, made the disclosure during a press briefing on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi.
According to Abubakar-Tunga, N211.6 million has been disbursed to cover the registration fees for 3,922 Kebbi students at the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi (FUBK), while N210.4 million was allocated for 2,205 students at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS).
He further revealed that plans are in progress to extend similar financial support to Kebbi indigenes enrolled in other tertiary institutions across Nigeria, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to expanding access to higher education.
The commissioner praised Governor Idris for what he described as an “unwavering and unprecedented support” to the state’s education sector, emphasizing that the intervention will ease the financial burden on thousands of families and boost enrollment and academic performance.
This move is part of the governor’s broader agenda to prioritize education and human capital development in Kebbi State.
