Dauda Lawal, has reiterated his administration’s firm stance against negotiating with bandits, emphasizing that his government remains committed to an all-out offensive against criminal elements terrorizing the state.
The governor clarified his position following reports that misrepresented his recent interview with BBC Hausa, where some media outlets allegedly misconstrued his remarks to suggest a willingness to engage in dialogue with bandits.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, Governor Lawal dismissed any claims of shifting his position, reaffirming that his administration will not engage in negotiations from a position of weakness.
“The security of Zamfara State has been our top priority from day one, and we have never wavered on our stance that negotiating with killers is not an option,” the statement read.
Governor Lawal highlighted the effectiveness of his administration’s security strategy, noting that many volatile areas in Zamfara are experiencing a return to peace. He also emphasized that any form of negotiation with bandits would only be considered if they surrender their weapons and repent unconditionally.
“All that resonates from Zamfara State is the success narrative of leadership and the elimination of hundreds of bandits daily,” the statement added.
Governor Lawal’s unwavering position underscores his administration’s commitment to restoring lasting peace and security in the state.
