Fubara-My-decision-to-embrace-peace-is-not-out-of-fear

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has stated that his administration’s choices on the political issue in the state are motivated by a desire for peace rather than fear. At his administration’s inaugural state dinner, which was held on Monday at Government House, Port Harcourt, to welcome the New Year, he revealed this to the Rivers people.

Furthermore, Fubara made it clear that efforts to promote peace were behind Edison Ehie, the factional Speaker, resignation and other actions.

On December 18, an eight-point settlement was the outcome of a truce meeting in Rivers State involving Governor Fubara, President Bola Tinubu, and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

The President ordered the immediate withdrawal of all legal actions filed by Fubara and his team concerning the political situation in Rivers State, as stated in the eight-point resolution that was signed following the meeting.

Among other things, the resolution required Fubara to bring the 2024 appropriations measure before the whole House after he had already brought it to the state’s four-member Assembly.

Fubara, his deputy; Ordu, Wike, Ribadu; Martin Amaewhule, the factional Speaker of the Rivers State Assembly; Aaron Chukwuemeka, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State; and Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, all signed the motion.

Rivers State residents were exhorted to embrace peace by Governor Fubara, who emphasized that the advancement of the state is the administration’s main priority.

He said, “Every decision that we have taken is not borne out of fear but because we have the interest of our people and we have respect for elders.

“I’m appealing to every one of us to embrace peace. We need this peace because our intention for the state is not for our interest but for the development of the state.

“So when we are faced with this type of situation we consider the actions and reactions. Who is going to suffer? Fubara will not suffer, but one million supporters will suffer.”

“I want to leave you with only this message, we will not disappoint you. We also will not be involved in any dirty fighting because we know that we are going to be the losers.

“Therefore, whatever it will take as seen in our decisions, yesterday (Sunday) a lot of people were worried about why would the Speaker resign. It is to tell you what we can do for peace to reign, ” Fubara stated.

The governor declared that rather than political fear, he was determined to leave a legacy of harmony and progress.
