BREAKING: Former NRC Presidential candidate, Bashir Tofa is dead

Alhaji Bashir Othman Tofa, the late MKO Abiola’s major opponent in the June 12, 1993 presidential election in Nigeria has been reported dead. He was 74 years old.

He was said to have died in the early morning of Monday, January 3, 2022.

Tofa, who was the candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC), died during a brief illness.

Confirming the incident, one of the relatives simply told journalists that: “Alhaji Bashir Tofa died after a brief illness.”

It will be recalled that the result of the election, presumably won by the late MKO Abiola, was however, annulled by former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.
