The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed rumors of a French military base being established in Nigeria, calling the claims “false and mischievous.”

In a statement issued in Abuja, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, clarified that reports of French soldiers arriving in Maiduguri, Borno State, were baseless. He stated that the information circulating online was completely false and urged the public to disregard the reports.

The DHQ also reminded the public that Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, had already addressed the issue in various media platforms, debunking the speculations. The statement emphasized that such rumors were the work of mischief makers.

Furthermore, the DHQ announced its commitment to continue upholding the territorial integrity of Nigeria while carrying out its constitutional duties. Additionally, plans are underway to harmonize court martial procedures across the military services to align with the nation’s justice system.
