The Nigerian Senate on Thursday confirmed the appointments of Thompson Oludare Sunday as the Managing Director and Kabir Sabo Kataka as Executive Director of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).
Their confirmation followed the presentation of a report by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, chaired by Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru (APC, Lagos East).
Presenting the report on the Senate floor, Senator Abiru said, “That the Senate do receive and consider the report of the Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions on the confirmation of the nomination for appointment as Managing Director and Executive Director of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).”
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had in May nominated both individuals and forwarded their names to the Senate for screening and confirmation. The request was read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and referred to the appropriate committee for scrutiny.
With Thursday’s confirmation, Thompson Sunday and Kabir Kataka are set to assume their new leadership roles at the NDIC, where they are expected to drive policies aimed at enhancing financial sector stability and depositors’ protection across Nigeria’s banking system.
