Fighters from Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad (JAS), commonly known as Boko Haram, have launched a series of coordinated attacks against the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in northern Borno State, Nigeria. The clashes, which occurred between December 23 and 24, targeted key ISWAP strongholds in Toumbun Gini, Mangari, Toumbun Saje, and Metele. These attacks have resulted in significant casualties, with numerous ISWAP militants reported dead.
Security expert Zagazola Makama revealed that the JAS fighters overwhelmed their ISWAP counterparts during the assault, seizing 20 motorcycles and destroying several ISWAP camps. The offensive forced ISWAP to abandon its positions, prompting the group to shift its focus to rebuilding its forces and avoiding direct confrontations with JAS in the short term.
Despite the scale of the attacks, the Nigerian military and security agencies have yet to issue any statements or comments regarding the situation.
