APC Chieftain Mocks Atiku, Obi Over Coalition Talks: Says Only 2031 Can Retire Tinubu

0

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayekooto Akindele, has dismissed suggestions that an emerging coalition of opposition political heavyweights could unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Akindele was reacting to recent comments by the former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewale Adebayo, who claimed that former PDP and Labour Party presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, are in talks to join the SDP. Adebayo stated that with their alliance, they could defeat President Tinubu and the APC in 2027.

However, Ayekooto, in a Facebook post, ridiculed the idea, asserting that any hope of removing Tinubu from power would have to wait until 2031.

“We will retire Tinubu to Lagos – SDP. Yes, in 2031,” he wrote, in response to the statement.

Taking a swipe at Atiku and Obi, Ayekooto mocked their post-office domiciles, contrasting them with Tinubu’s firm Lagos roots.

“What I love most about that statement is Tinubu and Lagos. When Obi retired as Anambra Governor, he didn’t retire to Anambra — he came to Lagos. When Waziri Adamawa [Atiku] retired as Vice President, he didn’t go to Adamawa — he went to Abuja. When Goodluck Jonathan retired, he returned to Bayelsa. Obasanjo went to Ogun, Buhari to Katsina, Osinbajo to Ikenne. Obviously, in 2031, Tinubu will go to Lagos. Shame on Obi and Atiku, they’re politically homeless,” he stated.

His comments underscore the growing war of words as Nigeria’s political atmosphere heats up ahead of the 2027 general elections.
