Senate President Godswill Akpabio has shed light on the rationale behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to appoint former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Speaking at a book launch commemorating Wike’s 57th birthday in Port Harcourt, Akpabio praised Wike as a dedicated and results-oriented public servant whose track record speaks volumes. According to a statement by Akpabio’s media aide, Jackson Udom, the Senate President extolled Wike’s transformative leadership, which has left an indelible mark on every office he has held.

“Your performance as a local government chairman, Chief of Staff, Minister, and two-term Governor secured your nomination to the Federal Executive Council,” Akpabio stated. “In less than two years as FCT Minister, you have turned Abuja into a massive construction site and a model city befitting a nation’s capital.”

Akpabio described Wike as a visionary leader who excels in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, adding that his charisma and integrity have set him apart in Nigeria’s political landscape.

The Senate President highlighted Wike’s early beginnings in 1967, a year marked by national conflict, attributing the challenges of his birth year to the resilience and fortitude that define his leadership today.

“In every role, you have risen above challenges like an eagle soaring above storms. Your passion for sports, particularly football, and commitment to nurturing youth talents are reflections of your dedication to Nigeria’s future,” Akpabio added.

Acknowledging the support of Wike’s family, Akpabio expressed gratitude to the Minister’s wife and children for their steadfast presence. He also commended Wike’s humor and charm, which lighten serious political discussions, emphasizing that governance is ultimately about people and shared joy.

Concluding his tribute, Akpabio prayed for continued success in Wike’s public service journey, wishing him more impactful years ahead.

“May your birthday bring you as much joy as you have given others, and may your service inspire even greater change for our beloved nation,” Akpabio said.

The event celebrated not only Wike’s contributions to public service but also his enduring legacy as a transformative leader and a unifying force in Nigerian politics.
