Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has commended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his swift compliance with the Supreme Court ruling on local government administration in the state.
In a statement issued on Monday, Adeyanju praised Governor Fubara’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, particularly his directive to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to conduct fresh elections for local government councils. He also lauded the governor’s decision to appoint Heads of Local Government Administration to oversee the 23 LGAs in an interim capacity.
“By ensuring that outgoing local government chairmen hand over power by Monday, March 3, 2025, Governor Fubara has taken a decisive step in enforcing the Supreme Court’s ruling against caretaker arrangements,” Adeyanju stated.
He further urged the governor to remain focused on the welfare of Rivers people despite political distractions, emphasizing that Nigerians across the country are supporting his leadership.
“The political landscape may shift, and challenges may arise, but we implore you to stay resolute. The people of Nigeria believe in your ability to navigate governance complexities and counter forces that seek to undermine the progress of Rivers State,” Adeyanju added.
Addressing political tensions, Adeyanju cautioned the governor against external influences that could compromise the collective interest of the people, particularly regarding his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Despite their differences, Adeyanju assured Governor Fubara of nationwide support and expressed confidence in his leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Your leadership stands as a beacon of hope, and we stand firmly behind you. History will remember your courage and dedication to the people of Rivers State,” he concluded.
