The Adamawa State Government has approved a new minimum wage of ₦70,000 for local government workers, marking a significant move to enhance the welfare and financial stability of public servants across the state.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Iliya James, during a digital press briefing following the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held on Wednesday in Yola. The meeting was presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
In addition to the wage increase, the SEC reviewed the performance of the 2024 state budget, expressing satisfaction with its 80% implementation rate, a sharp improvement from the 56% achieved in 2023.
Further insights were provided by the Commissioner for Finance and Budget, Mrs. Augustina Wandamiya, and the Director-General of the Bureau of Budget, Mr. Emanuel Pridimso, who explained that the focus was now on the redeployment of surpluses and closing balances from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure effective financial year closure.
Pridimso noted that Adamawa has continued to record tangible developmental milestones and improve transparency through disciplined financial management and a commitment to budget integrity.
The dual milestone of increased minimum wage and strong budget performance underscores the Fintiri-led administration’s ongoing efforts to promote fiscal responsibility and prioritize the welfare of its workforce.
