The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has unveiled former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Musa Daura, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

Makinde made the announcement on Thursday at the party’s elective National Convention in Bauchi.

The Oyo State Governor said the task before opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general election went beyond merely winning political power, stressing the need to offer Nigerians a genuine alternative capable of securing the country’s future.

According to him, the central challenge was to present Nigerians with a credible choice that would rescue the country and guarantee a better future for its citizens.

Makinde noted that the 2027 campaign season would be dominated by political slogans, promises and declarations from various candidates, but urged Nigerians to demand more from those seeking their votes.

“As we approach 2027, therefore, I believe the task before all of us is bigger than winning an election. It is to give Nigerians a real choice about the future of their country,” he said.

Daura, who recently joined the APM after resigning from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), replaces Ibrahim Adamu Bala, who had earlier been announced as Makinde’s running mate.

Bala’s nomination was understood to have been a placeholder arrangement pending the selection of a substantive running mate for the 2027 presidential contest.
