The Oyo State Government has officially taken delivery of two security surveillance aircraft, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to strengthen intelligence gathering and combat criminal activities across the state.
The aircraft arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan on Tuesday and are expected to enhance aerial surveillance, intelligence collection, and rapid security response operations within Oyo State and neighboring areas.
Speaking in a statement, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, described the arrival of the aircraft as another major step in the state’s commitment to improving security through advanced surveillance technology.
“The arrival of the aircraft marks another step in the state’s efforts to strengthen security operations through improved intelligence gathering and aerial surveillance,” the statement read.
Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier disclosed on July 18, 2026, that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were being reassembled at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos before their final delivery to Oyo State.
The state government had also assured residents that the aircraft would be delivered before the end of July, a promise that has now been fulfilled.
According to the government, the surveillance aircraft will support security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps and other relevant security formations, in monitoring criminal activities and improving response times across the state.
Governor Makinde was present at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport to receive the aircraft upon their arrival.
The Oyo State Government first announced the acquisition of the two surveillance aircraft on July 8, 2025, as part of broader efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of security agencies in tackling emerging security threats.
The delivery of the aircraft comes amid the state’s sustained drive to combat kidnapping, banditry, and other forms of violent crime through the deployment of modern security infrastructure.
