Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, on Monday held a strategic meeting with the party’s governorship candidates from across the Southwest ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Those present at the meeting included Bimbo Adekanmbi, the APM governorship candidate in Oyo State; Prince Laja Adeoye of Lagos; Rotimi Babajide of Ogun State; and the party’s governorship candidate in Osun State.
A source familiar with the meeting said discussions centred on strengthening the party’s preparations, coordinating grassroots mobilisation and expanding its electoral presence across the region.
Makinde emerged as the APM’s presidential candidate after securing the party’s ticket at its presidential primary held in Ibadan.
In his acceptance speech, Makinde said his administration would focus on restoring hope, rebuilding public confidence and implementing practical reforms in critical sectors, including oil and gas, agriculture and the wider economy.
The governor had declared his presidential ambition under the APM platform in May 2026, citing internal crises and unresolved legal challenges within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as factors behind the decision to move his political structure and candidates to the APM.
The source said Monday’s meeting was also aimed at consolidating the party’s presence and building electoral strength in key Southwest states, including Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo.
According to the source, the party plans to intensify grassroots mobilisation and expand its political influence across the region as it works to establish the Southwest as a strong electoral base ahead of the 2027 elections.
