Popular skit maker and actor Akinyoola Ayoola, widely known as Kamo State, has dismissed rumours suggesting he has fallen out with actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele.
Speaking during an interview with BBC Yoruba, Kamo State described the reports as false, explaining that their reduced public appearances are simply the result of their increasingly busy work schedules.
“We are still together, even closer. But now she is very busy with her December project, which didn’t give her a chance. I am also not the same as I used to be last year, and her prayer is that I should also always be called to work on projects,” he said.
The actor urged fans and social media users to stop spreading unfounded stories about their relationship.
“There is no fight; don’t let people paint what doesn’t exist,” he added.
Reflecting on how their relationship began, Kamo State revealed that he first met Akindele while working on the set of Everybody Loves Jenifa. He described the award-winning filmmaker as a mentor and one of the biggest influences on his career.
“Before I met her, she had been like a role model to me; I love her very much. Because of how she treated me on set, I started calling her mummy,” he said.
He also recalled an incident during filming when he misplaced the key to a pair of handcuffs used on set, noting that Akindele’s concern and support further strengthened their bond.
According to Kamo State, Akindele’s encouragement and mentorship opened doors for him to feature in several of her productions, including Aiyetoro and Behind the Scene.
His comments come amid recent speculation on social media that the pair had fallen out after they were seen together less frequently at film sets and public events.
Comments
