The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an adjustment to the campaign schedule for the upcoming Osun State governorship election, following a revision of its electoral timetable.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commission confirmed that the election date has been moved forward by one week—from August 8 to August 15, 2026.
The statement, signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, explained that the change necessitated a corresponding shift in the campaign timeline.
According to INEC, political parties will now conclude their campaigns at midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in compliance with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates that all campaign activities must end 24 hours before election day.
The Commission called on political parties, candidates, and other stakeholders to strictly adhere to the revised schedule.
INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting elections that are free, fair, credible, and inclusive.
