ABUJA, Oct. 6, 2026: The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has started sending non-sensitive election materials to some states, as preparations for the 2027 general election enter the 100-day mark.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja at a national stakeholders’ meeting held to mark 100 days to the polls.
Amupitan said contracts for offshore production and fleet supply have been awarded, with production of 57,000 new Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices now at an advanced stage.
He added that new operational vehicles are being delivered across the country, while civil works are moving ahead. These include the construction of dedicated BVAS storage facilities and local government area offices, alongside renovation of INEC offices nationwide.
“Some states have started receiving some non-sensitive materials ahead of the election,” he said, noting that procurement for the printing of ballot papers and result sheets is nearly complete, with final contract awards in view.
The chairman also said a contract for solar power installation across all commission offices has been awarded, and that upgrades to critical ICT applications and core infrastructure have been carried out.
According to him, the commission’s procurement department is closely monitoring suppliers, contractors and delivery schedules to ensure all purchases meet statutory timelines.
