At least 14 candidates of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have reportedly been abducted by unidentified gunmen in Benue State.
The incident occurred during an ആക്രമ on a commercial bus travelling from Makurdi to Otukpo, where the victims were scheduled to sit for their examinations on Thursday.
The abducted individuals, said to be mostly young adults, were on their way to the examination centre when the assailants struck, disrupting their journey and raising fresh concerns over the safety of students in transit.
Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Maxwell Ogiri, confirmed the development to journalists in Makurdi. He stated that security operatives have been deployed to the area and efforts are ongoing to secure the safe release of the victims.
“The victims are young people coming to Otukpo to write JAMB. Security agents have been deployed and efforts are ongoing to rescue them,” Ogiri said.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to provide further details on the identities of the victims or the circumstances surrounding the attack, while the incident has heightened anxiety among residents and families of the affected candidates.
