Wife of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, Hadiza Isma, has denied allegations that wiretapping devices were discovered in their Abuja residence during a recent search by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Reacting to the development in a post on X, Hadiza dismissed the claim as untrue and questioned the credibility of the anti-graft agency.
“I was there. No such equipment was found. They lie. But why? An agency with no credibility at all,” she wrote.
The ICPC had earlier stated that suspected surveillance devices were recovered during a raid on El-Rufai’s residence in Abuja. According to the Commission, the items allegedly seized were capable of intercepting confidential communications and accessing classified security materials.
Details of the alleged recovery were outlined in court documents filed before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In the ongoing legal battle, El-Rufai is challenging what he describes as unlawful detention and violations of his fundamental human rights. Affidavits submitted by the ICPC maintain that the search was conducted in the presence of Hadiza Isma and their son, Mohammed Bello.
The Commission further alleged that the former governor declined to cooperate with investigators, choosing to remain silent pending his formal arraignment in court. It also claimed that one of his aides linked to the investigation has reportedly left the country.
The matter is expected to proceed before the FCT High Court as both parties prepare to present their arguments.
