Edo: Suspected Thugs Attack NDC Secretariat, Destroy Properties

0

Suspected thugs have reportedly attacked the secretariat of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, damaging properties at the facility.

The incident, reported on Wednesday, comes barely a week after an attack on NDC supporters in Enugu State that reportedly left one person dead.

As of the time of filing this report, no casualties had been reported in the Edo incident. However, footage circulating online showed damage to properties at the party’s secretariat.

The attack is the latest reported incident involving political party infrastructure, raising concerns about political violence and intolerance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a video showing the aftermath of the incident, a woman accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of being responsible for the attack. However, the allegation had not been independently verified at the time of this report.

“The last one happened in Enugu, where one person died. Now they have brought it to Edo. APC, your end is here,” she said.

The circumstances surrounding the attack, including the identities of those responsible and their motives, remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.

The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of opposition party members and political facilities as parties prepare for the 2027 general elections.

Civil society groups and political analysts have previously warned that attacks on political party offices and supporters could undermine democratic participation if those responsible are not held accountable.

There was no official response from the Edo State Government or the APC regarding the allegation at the time of this report.
